Buffering videos can be caused by multiple factors, so it is important to narrow down the cause.
- Ensure your device is connected to your network with an ethernet cable. WiFi is variable by nature and only reliable for streaming in the "cleanest" environments. We can assist with this if Valley Internet manages your network (see: What is Managed Network?).
- Check your internet speed with a device that is hardwired to your network with an ethernet cable. Compare this with the bandwidth requirements of the streaming service that you are using. Typically, 5-8 Mbps or higher is required to stream high definition content reliably, but this can vary greatly depending on the video resolution and streaming service.
- Make sure that other devices on your network are not using too much of your available bandwidth. Valley Internet has a smartphone app that can make this process easy, called Smart.Network. Reach out to technical support if you are interested.
